Dental coding and billing specialist is responsible for billing orthodontic services to the appropriate insurance companies and Medicare/Medicaid. Billing specialist prepares and submits clean claims electronically or by paper; answers questions from patients, clerical staff and insurance companies; identifies and resolves patient billing complaints; evaluates patient financial status and establishes and tracks payment plans; reviews accounts and recommends solutions to billing supervisor; processes payments; participates in educational activities and attend monthly staff meetings; maintains strict HiPAA compliance regarding patient privacy. This position reports to the billing supervisor or office manager. *Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Successful candidates should demonstrate the following strengths: Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal; well-organized and detail-oriented; skills with computers and basic office equipment; knowledge of dental codes and billing practices; ability to maintain workflow under changing and fast-moving circumstances and communicate effectively with team members from a remote setting. Ethical, reliable, and aware of compliance guidelines at all times.

Must have at least 1 year of experience in dental billing & coding and strong mastery of billing codes. Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent. Some higher education in accounting/finance preferred.

High school diploma or GED required; some higher education courses or college degree in accounting/finance preferred.

At least 1 year of experience in dental billing & coding.
