Just got your first Invisalign aligners? Congrats! You’re on your way to a lifelong, healthy smile. While your licensed Diamond Braces orthodontist will keep your treatment running smoothly, you have an equally important job to do: wearing your aligners 22 hours a day, and cleaning them regularly. Healthy, strong, clean teeth move faster, align better, and avoid complications along the way.
3 Effective Ways to Clean Your Invisalign Aligners
- Toothbrush and lukewarm water: Just run your aligners under the water and brush them gently on all surfaces with the toothbrush. Note: use a different toothbrush than your personal toothbrush to minimize the spread of bacteria!
- Toothbrush, water, and regular dish soap: Yep, you can clean your aligners with dish soap! You don’t need very much: just squeeze a little onto the toothbrush and brush gently all over the aligner, working up a lather. When you’re done, rinse thoroughly.
- Invisalign cleaning system: the cleaning kit contains a small cleaning tub and Invisalign cleaning crystals , which are specially designed to thoroughly clean Invisalign aligners. Mix the crystals with warm water in the tub, drop your aligners in, and let them sit for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly afterwards.
When you take your aligners out, make sure to keep them in a clean protective case. You can wash your aligner case in exactly the same methods listed above. And be sure to wash your aligners after every meal to keep your mouth clean, your teeth strong, and your smile healthy!
